The plan includes 850 to 900 new housing units, as well as a new school and sports complex. The costs are estimated at 58 million euros.

No question, there is a dire need for affordable housing in the country. A number of projects are in the planning stages, but it often takes 15 years or more to complete an entire new settlement.

One such project is "Wunne mat der Wooltz", a shared project of the Fonds du Logement and the municipality of Wiltz. Spanning five hectares, the new quarter will house around 2,000 people and should be finished in 2038.

School and sports complex

Construction has been going strong since the end of last year. The school and sports complex is expected to be ready for the new school year 2023, welcoming 320 children. The "Campus Géitzt" will sit on the site of an old football pitch.

The basic construction for the complex should be done by autumn this year. Besides a school, it will eventually house a Maison Relais, a music school and a sports facility. One thousand meals a day will be served in the canteen.

CO2 neutral

The housing project is expected to cost around 58 million euros. The former industrial site will be home to affordable housing, a mix of single-family houses and residences, for a total of 850 to 900 units. Seventy per cent will be rented out and the remaining units sold.

The neighbourhood aims to be CO2 neutral with reduced car traffic and a lot of greenery.
