The new site in Steinsel is estimated to have cost around €10 million. Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume was present during the ceremony, as was Steinsel Mayor Jean-Pierre Klein, and Minister of the Economy Franz Fayot.

The instalment of the building was initiated to allow the company to better follow the rapid evolution of the automobile industry. Here, the year-long deterioration effects that cars are usually exposed to can easily be simulated within a few days. Company board member Lynn Elvinger noted that the new station thus aids in testing Cebi’s products, which are essential in the development phase of a vehicle.

The research centre will however not only be used by the electromechanical engineering firm. Investors from the space travel sector can also make use of the facility to test their equipment, as for example the resistance to Arizona sand or the pressure of a rocket launch. Minister Fayot also used the opportunity of the inauguration to comment on the new research centre: “This is a great example for how important it is that the government ensures companies can still make innovate investments, and that despite the pandemic.”

The turnover of Cebi Luxembourg declined by 14% in 2020. Nevertheless, company officials expect that this year, revenue will once again pass the €85 million mark, last recorded in 2019.
