2021 ass e wichtegt Joer fir d'SES / Rep. Pierre Weimerskirch
Am Ganze wëll d’SES dëst Joer 12 nei Satellitte lancéieren. No e puer Joer Réckgang erwaart ee sech elo Wuesstem duerch eng méi breet Offer.

After several quiet years, the Luxembourg-based company expects a resumption of activities thanks to a more diversified offer. The European Satellites Company (SES) has a long and successful past in Luxembourg: in just a few years, the company has become one of the largest satellite operators in the world, a position it still holds today.

The last few years have been trickier for SES, although the number of employees in Luxembourg has never been so high. The year 2021 is expected to be synonymous with recovery and new projects.

SES has not launched satellites in a while, but it has announced that in 2021, it is preparing to send several satellites into space. This will also be an important year with the creation of a new constellation with the O3B-Mpower satellites, which will fly at 8,000 kilometres above the earth.

In the first phase, this constellation will consist of eleven satellites that will be launched using SpaceX rockets. The growth potential is no longer so much in video but rather in data sharing, storage and transmission as well as internet via satellite.

640 people are currently working in the Grand Duchy, which demonstrates SES’ desire to stick to its Luxembourg roots.
