The bridge in Ettelbruck was first constructed in 1951, and then renovated fifty years later in 2001. Now, it is slowly but steadily being dismantled altogether.

While the new juxtaposed bridge, which connects Ettelbruck and Diekirch, was opened for traffic a few days ago, the dismantling process of the old construction began on Saturday.

After two weeks of extensive preparations, workers started taking the old bridge apart and were closely followed by a number of spectators.

The old structure consisted of eight 20-metre-long steel beams, which were brought down one by one and subsequently cut in half to facilitate transportation.

The bridges and roads authority announced that the construction site will most likely take several weeks and come to a conclusion in summer 2021.
