
The first patient was diagnosed around two weeks ago, with a second following soon after. Legil said any link between the first two infections had been completely ruled out, as the prisoners in question resided in different wings of the building. Staff and inmates are completely separate from one another.
A new case has recently been detected in another part of the establishment, the source of which is not yet known. Legil explained the entire floor had undergone testing, revealing three more positive cases. The whole floor has been placed in quarantine.
The vaccination campaign has already begun and is set to conclude at the prison on Friday. One hundred people had been vaccinated as of Thursday, while those with active infections are excluded from receiving the jab until they no longer test positive.
A floor at the prison has been dedicated to Covid patients, but is now fully occupied with the current six patients.
