Laura Zuccoli, the president of the Association for the Support of Immigrant Workers (ASTI), has filed a complaint against persons unknown for defamation and incitement to hatred.
Zuccoli took this decision following user reactions on the Facebook page of MP Fred Keup from the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (adr), which included insults and racist slurs against Zuccoli as well as calls for violence and even death threats.
Keup left these comments up and neither commented on them, nor condemned them.
The user comments were a reaction to statements by the MP regarding an Opinion Piece written by Zuccoli and published on RTL.lu in February. In her article, Zuccoli discussed the discrimination faced by young Cape Verdeans in school.
Keup’s post read: ‘Watch out! ASTI is spreading polemic again!’
In the eyes of the ASTI, the comments on the post clearly qualify as hate speech. The association strongly condemned the comments and expressed its shock that an MP could incite statements of this kind.
