Next year, the RGTR network will be restructured so that almost half of the busses driving across the Grand Duchy will be emission-free.

A veritable challenge for members of the transportation sector, Georges Hilbert from Sales Lentz Group conveys. The general director  talked to our colleagues from RTL Radio about his experience with electrically operated vehicles. There are currently 600 coaches and minibuses parked at his company's site, out of which 50 are electric.

Preparations for the 2022 deadline have been underway for eight years, Helibert further noted. Due to the different nature of electric engines, a number of adaptions need to be made so that people can be transported just as comfortably as is the case with traditional buses. Hilbert elaborated that rigorous planing was necessary to ensure that operations continue to run smoothly.

Naturally, conductors and mechanics also need to prepare for the eventual change and have to participate in advanced training programmes. Furthermore, the bus fleet needs to be reorganised, with older and less-efficient models due to be sold off.
