Health personnel were among the first to be vaccinated, and are furthermore regularly tested. Luxembourg’s current coronavirus numbers show that the virus’ circulation is less present among inoculated groups and, above all, severe symptoms are prevented altogether in people that have received the jab. There are indications that Luxembourg is facing a third wave. More remnants of the virus are found in wastewater, and the number of infections has also been climbing in recent days. For virologist Dr Thomas Dentzer, broad-scale testing with the national large-scale testing programme is an essential strategy to keep the pandemic under control.
In a representative sample of the week from 8-14 February, 132 positive tests were sequenced. In 57.6% of cases it was the British variant, and in 4.5% the South African mutation.
