The numbers paint a clear picture: infections among pupils and students have significantly increased over the past week. This upwards trend has led to the decision by the Minister for Education, Claude Meisch (DP) to close primary schools and Maisons Relais from Friday evening, one week before February half term.

301 positive Coronavirus cases were identified in Luxembourgish schools from 25 to 31 January.

212 of them fall into the scenario 1 (i.e. an isolated case in one class). This compares with 145 scenario 1 cases the previous week. 231 classes in public schools and lycées are affected, and 5 classes in competency centres.

42 scenario 2 cases were identified, with a maximum of 2 positive cases in a class.

Most notably, there were 22 cases from the scenario 3 (three to five positive cases in a class) and 25 scenario 4 cases (chain of infection within a school). The previous week, there had only been one scenario 4 case.
