“Ste Elisabeth am Park”, a senior home in the capital, employs around 120 staff members and is home to 110 residents. The large outbreak was first noticed in the mid of January. General director Fabienne Steffen stated that prior to this incident, the institution had not reported a single positive infection.
It remains difficult to clearly assess how this larger outbreak could occur despite the regular testing among both residents and employees. One theory is that it may be due to the faster spreading British variant of the virus, which has yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, the institution will channel its efforts to separate healthy people from those infected with the virus. Due to resulting staff shortages, the senior home has requested help from the national health reserve.
None of the residents have been vaccinated thus far.
