There is still no car pound in Esch-sur-Alzette and cars end up "relocated" in public car parks, irritating the CSV mayor Georges Mischo.

Esch-sur-Alzette is still missing a car pound after the temporary solution in the "Gebléishal" warehouse was closed due to security concerns in August 2020. As a result, cars impounded because they are blocking the roadways are deposited throughout Esch, as RTL has found out.

Around a dozen clamped cars ended up in a public car park. Police confirmed they had been moved there as they were blocking the road elsewhere. They stressed that this only concerns illegally parked cars, not those seized in the course of an investigation. These are still moved to the closed pound in Strassen.

Video report in Luxembourgish:

Regular police patrols also ensure that the relocated cars are safe and most are collected by their owners within a short timeframe. All the same, mayor Georges Mischo is not happy about the situation. Not only do these cars occupy some of the precious parking spaces in Esch, but they also constitute an eyesore.

While the municipality of Esch cannot offer any spaces, he could imagine the Crassier Terre Rouge or the old Arcelor warehouses in Esch/Schifflange as suitable locations. He has appealed to the police and Minister Henri Kox to quickly find a solution.
