On Monday 18 January Luxembourg's vaccination campaign continues at the Victor Hugo Hall in Limpertsberg, where people will receive their three-week follow-up jab, as well as others obtaining their first.
On Friday the Ministry of Health published the vaccine allocations planned for Luxembourg. 86,000 doses should be delivered by the end of March, covering 43,000 people.
A further vaccination centre in Mondorf is expected to cover most of the population living in the east, though the commune is part of the South-Eastern canton of Remich. According to RTL information the centre is said to be built on the former scouts site. This had been decided in the government council on Friday.
However, not everyone seems enthusiastic about the choice of location. Both CSV and DP deputies from the east, Gilles Baum and Carole Hartmann, expressed their concern in a parliamentary question addressed to the Minister of Health, asking for confirmation and explanations as to why Mondorf was chosen as opposed to Grevenmacher or Echternach, for example.
Hartmann believes Mondorf's location is not ideal, as it is not central enough. While she does not oppose the centre being built there, she writes that it is important that "together with the municipalities a comprehensive solution is found". The parliamentary question could be clarified as to what possibilities there would otherwise be for the eastern region. Mondorf mayor Steve Reckel, meanwhile, responded that the decision had been taken in the government council on the basis of recommendations of the High Commissioner for National Protection and would not cover up any political motivation.
