A new report from Luxembourg's Economic and Social Council (CES) has suggested that teleworking could cost the HORESCA sector up to €350 million per year.

This could be a conservative estimate, as it assumes employees work from home only once a week.

Even more worrying for the sector, the report suggests that 53% of jobs in the Grand Duchy - the highest figure in the EU - can be done from home.

In 2019, only 20% of employees in Luxembourg said they worked from home, and even then only from time to time.

Following the coronavirus crisis this year, however, an estimated 69% of workers began to work from home, with 48% doing so full-time.

If employees continue to work from home in such numbers in the years to come, a large impact on the HORESCA sector is to be expected.
