
Police officers were forced to intervene in some public places, as members of the public were not observing safe distancing or not wearing masks. Certain establishments also failed to close at the government-regulated time.
In Esch-sur-Alzette, a police patrol interrupted a party on Place de la Résistance, where a dozen people were shouting and playing music at around 2am.
In Differdange, two people were warned of the new measures while in a café shortly before 1.30am.
A man was taken into overnight custody in Ettelbruck after spitting beer at passersby near the station around 11pm. He was intoxicated and refusing to wear a mask.
A particularly tricky incident took place in Luxembourg City on Rue Dicks at 1.30am. Police were blocked from entering a bar and were forced to call the fire brigade for assistance. Twenty minutes later, the bar owner relented and opened the doors, while the customers had fled to the upper floor according to the police report. Due to current laws, the police officers could not take further action, so they opted to wait outside until the customers gave up. Around 3.30am, all 15 customers emerged from the bar. Their identities were checked and the bar owner was cautioned.
The police also advised that the Upper Sûre lake checks were carried out without major incident.
