A fire broke out in La Mirabelle restaurant in the centre of Eich on Friday morning.
The fire has disrupted traffic on one of the busiest roads into the capital.
According to L'Essentiel, the fire started under the building's roof. In view of the risks of propagation, the building was evacuated and significant resources were deployed, including from the interior where fire fighters were equipped with breathing apparatus.
Luxembourg City ambulance, Hesperange and Luxembourg City rescue services and police forces responded to the incident. It only took fire fighters an hour to put the fire out.
Claude Karpen, head of the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps, explained how they chose two intervention points - one inside, and one outside - to tackle the flames. The Hesperange unit supported the operation by taking a regulating position, thus ensuring the fire would not travel upwards. After half an hour, the fire was under control, and 10 minutes later they had managed to extinguish it completely.

The fallout was limited to material damages, nevertheless the property's owner broadcast their plans to reopen the establishment on Friday evening on social media.
Emergency services reported another fire on Thursday evening at around 10pm, this time on the Route de Mondorf in Remich. Once again it was the roof that had caught fire, but as was the case in Eich, only material damages occurred.
