It’s been more than two weeks that a construction machine has been relentlessly digging ditches in a field situated next to the Adenauer parking lot in Kirchberg. Fair to say that it’s an intriguing construction site - that has whetted the curiosity of many passersby.

Contacted by our colleagues at RTL 5 Minutes, the City of Luxembourg specified that the ditches are part of preventive archaeological digs. Officials hope that these measures help protect potentially forgotten heritage before the site will be home to a new neighborhood.

According to the general development plan, the site in question will be urbanized and home to new housing blocks. The neighbourhood will be called “Laangfur.” There will also be a nature zone at the bottom of the area, close to the road leading to Fond Saint-Martin.
