In 2017, the average European holiday budget was around 380 euros per person. Residents of the Grand Duchy don’t make compromises – their budget is practically twice that amount: 769 euros! This makes Luxembourg the highest spending country in terms of the amount of money spent on holidays, ahead of Austria (641 euros) and Malta (633 euros).

In detail, residents of Luxembourg spend an average of 71 euros per night abroad. Their favourite destinations are Portugal (18%, with an average of 59 euros per night), followed by France (16.5%, 92 euros per night) and Spain (11.3%, and 109 euros by night).

Keep in mind that Luxembourgers are the Europeans who (on holiday) travel the least within their own country: 0.8% of holiday nights are spent in Luxembourg – meaning they prefer travelling abroad.
