MeteoLux announced record high temperatures on Thursday, never before seen in its history.

The state weather service AgriMeteo examined temperatures recorded at all 32 weather stations in Luxembourg, concluding that the highest temperature was recorded in Steinsel. At 40.8°C, the temperature measured was higher than the previous record in Remich on 8 August 2003, which was 40.5°C. Whilst the temperature was highest in Steinsel, Remich smashed its own record by recording highs of 40.6°C on Thursday.

Findel record-breaking temperatures

Since the Luxembourgish meteorological station in Findel began in 1947, temperatures have never reached such heights.

MeteoLux announced its Findel weather station measured a highpoint of 39 degrees on Thursday, breaking the previous record set during the 2003 heatwave of 37.9°C, which was reached on two occasions (8 and 12 August 2003).

In Luxembourg, the temperature has passed 35°C on ten occasions since 1947, five of these occasions taking place in July. More worryingly, nine of these have occurred since the 90s.

It is also worth noting that the record temperature was measured at the MeteoLux weather station in special conditions (under a weather shelter, two metres above the ground), which does not rule out that Thursday's temperatures were not higher elsewhere in the Grand Duchy.
