A trailer loaded with hay bales caught fire near Schumannseck. The dry weather caused the fire to spread to the woods.
The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps was alerted to a fire on the N15 between Schumannseck and Buderscheid. The cause of the fire was a number of hay bales on a trailer, which broke out into flames. The dry climate caused the fire to spill over into the woods.
The emergency services immediately sent four fire engines to the scene alongside an ambulance. However, further units and special equipment were required as firefighters worked hard to extinguish the fire. A police helicopter and a CGDIS drone were also in operation to provide further information on the extent of the fire to ground units.
CGDIS's sanitary support was put into operation due to the high temperatures. The unit helped ambulances ensure the safety of firefighters and other emergency services personnel. There were no injuries in the operation.
A total of 60 firefighters were involved in the operation, coming from a number of fire brigades including Wiltz, Esch-sur-Sure, Lintgen, Troisvierges, and the logistics support centre. The Hosingen fire brigade was also involved in the operation to establish a security perimeter. The high temperatures also meant that fire brigades went in to replace those who had arrived at the start.
