Thursday marks the one-year anniversary of the incident in Bonnevoie, in which a man in a car was shot dead by a police officer.
In March this year, the public prosecutor's office announced that the police officer in question has been charged with voluntary homicide.
According to RTL sources, the expert opinion and entire investigation depending on the general police inspectorate. A preliminary conclusion from that investigation determined that the police officer had less than half a second to make a decision, no matter the hypothetical scenario.
The fatal incident occurred at 4pm on 11 April 2018. The police patrol was conducting a routine traffic check, but one motorist decided to flee. A police officer got out of the vehicle to try and stop the man. At this point, according to the lawyer of the charged police officer, it appeared the vehicle was driving straight towards the police officer, leading the other officer to shoot the man. According to eye witnesses at the time of the incident, the officer fired three to four shots.
Barely ten months later, the police officer was charged with voluntary homicide on 28 March and was placed under judicial supervision. The police officer's lawyer confirmed in March that his client would be pleading a case of self-defence.
