Earlier today, Luxembourg's Christian Social People's Party (CSV) held their national congress in Moutfort. Frank Engel narrowly beat Serge Wilmes for the role of president.
CSV president Marc Spautz's opening words were clear: "it's about looking ahead and not burying our heads in the sand." The party will support its new president, regardless of who wins the race, Spautz maintained.
Joined by former commission president Jacques Santer, more than 700 CSV members found their way to Moutfort earlier today to vote for the party's new national committee. Current commission president Jean-Claude Juncker remained absent.
Frank Engel received 54% of votes compared to Wilmes' 46%. 536 party members voted for their party president. The party also elected Elisabeth Margue and Stéphanie Weydert as vice presidents.
As the only candidate, Felix Eischen received 93% of the vote for the role of secretary general, succeeding Laurent Zeimet.
