High ozone levels90km/h speed limit on motorways

RTL Today
Speed limits on motorways have been reduced to lower ozone levels.

Heightened ozone levels in the atmosphere can have health consequences. Immediate effects can include headaches, sore throat and breathing issues.

Ozone is the result of a reaction between sunlight and exhaust emissions, which is why speed limits help reduce them. Realtime ozone levels can be found on the Ministry for the Environment website.

In other countries, such as Austria, electric vehicles are exempt from the speed limit, as they do not produce exhaust fumes. Luxembourg will not pursue this two-tier approach, however.

Fines for speeding will be the same as any other speeding fine.

As long as temperatures are above 30 degrees, the speed limit is expected to stay in place.
