Around 200 businesses are in search of a new site, according to a poll by the Chambre des métiers. Two thirds are from the construction sector, a quarter from mechanics. The needed land amounts to around 73 hectares, with less than 10 hectares currently available. The majority of business owners also deplore high rents.
In an analysis, the Chambre des métiers found that restrictive criteria are making it impossible for businesses to settle in many places.
An example are restrictions regarding the storage of materials. They demand fast action from the government: in addition to making more land available, authorisation procedures and servicing works must be accelerated. The past has shown that these procedures can drag on for years.
