Eurostat has recently released a study showing that in 2023, 43% of the EU population aged between 25 and 34 years had a tertiary degree. Only Ireland (with) 63% and Cyprus (with) 62% had a higher percentage, putting the Grand Duchy in third place.
The score is quite impressive in contrast to countries like Romania (23%) or Italy (31%).
Interestingly, while 49% of women have completed a bachelor’s degree, men are situated lower at 38%.
In addition, Luxembourg is among the 13 countries who have already reached the 2030 target of 45%, with a total of 60% of people with a university degree.
Luxembourg offers strong support systems for students going abroad. With these resources in place, a lot of students are taking advantage to pursue further education, which can significantly expand job and life opportunities.
Every year, The Ministry for Higher Education organises a college fair, the ‘Foire de l’Etudiant’, where 16 different countries are invited to represent their universities. All in all, there are 200 universities who are keen to talk about what they have to offer, as well as associations of Luxembourgish students abroad.
These are great support systems and a quick possibility to connect with others. In addition, the University of Luxembourg offers 18 bachelor programmes and 46 master’s degrees.
In 2018, 47.7% of students from Luxembourg studied abroad, most of them in either Germany or France. In that regard, Luxembourgish students have a big advantage: most speak German, French and English, and even more. Situated close to Germany, France and Belgium, there are quite a lot of possibilities within easy reach.
The Luxembourgish state funding, formerly know as CEDIES, supports the students with a bursary and the possibility to take out an affordable student loan. You can check if you’re eligible by clicking right here.
