
A total of 38 people were granted refugee status in March, according to figures released Thursday evening by the Immigration Directorate within the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Over the course of the month, 106 applications for international protection were submitted, bringing the total for the first three months of 2026 to 318. Most applicants came from Sudan and Syria. The figures represent a significant decrease compared to the same period over the past four years.
In March, 49 applications were rejected, either through the standard or accelerated procedure.
Meanwhile, a total of 218 people submitted applications for temporary protection during the first quarter of 2026. The vast majority – 208 – were Ukrainian nationals.
