Safe streets, less pollution and higher quality of life for inhabitants: many European cities are starting to limit speeds to 30kph. After Brussels, Paris has recently introduced this measure. And even in Luxembourg, more and more municipalities are starting to catch on.
Luxembourg City started introducing the limit in resident areas as early as the 1990s. Around 90% of municipal streets now have it in place. This increases road safety for all participants, principally pedestrians and cyclists, of course.
In Dudelange, zone 30 has been implemented for around 15 years, with around 80% of municipal streets now affected. But the council also wants to introduce safety measures on state roads.
They have received around 30 requests recently to make roads safer. Half of them were approved, 20 percent refused and 30 percent are still being considered.
