A number of students from St. George's International School visited the ambassador on Tuesday and presented their projects.

The three youngest decided to build a home for insects. It was important to them to use recycled materials instead of buying new.

Six year old Robert explained: “These are wooden sticks that bees like to live in... we are not done yet, but this is where they'll go in, all insects like that."

St. George's International School does projects year round to teach children the appropriate behaviour around nature. One group used an app to identify the flowers in the embassy's garden so they could show the ambassador. The Embassy considered the event a complete success. It is important to them to get children involved in the fight against climate change.

Fleur Thomas says: “Children are the ones who will struggle if we do nothing. So it is important that children understand and can influence the adults to ensure we do enough to protect the environment. They are the next generation. We hope they will take the planet forward in a good state. We want to see things improve and not deteriorate."

These students and their teachers definitely know their role. Every small step is important. If everyone does their part, this can have a worldwide impact - following the motto "think global, act local".

Ria, aged 9, said: “Biodiversity is very important to me. It's what has given us life and it is everything. Without trees we cannot breathe, so we need them. But they need us, too."

Older students also tackled the topics of biodiversity and sustainability in daily life. They exchanged ideas and asked questions during a discussion group with the ambassador.

To finish off, the insect hotel was formally inaugurated. It will remain in the Embassy's garden.
