CHEM hospital25 years of palliative care in Luxembourg

The CHEM hospital in Esch-sur-Alzette played a crucial role in the introduction of palliative care in Luxembourg 25 years ago.

On 1 March 2019, it will be 25 years since palliative care was introduced in the Grand-Duchy. Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrisch (CHEM) in Esch-sur-Alzette was the first to offer this service - starting off with five-bed hospital ward.

Nowadays, up to eight terminally ill patients can receive palliative care at CHEM. Even though their illnesses cannot be cured, the care they receive allows the patients to live as comfortably as possible given the situation.

Following the completion of the new Südspidol, 14 beds available for patients in palliative care.
