Like many others, the Army adapted its entire annual schedule to the needs of the pandemic. Even if difficult at times, officials have concluded that for the most part, soldiers and officers in the field left a good impression on the public. Their tasks included the distribution of masks, the mounting of support tents in front of hospitals, as well as helping out with contact tracing and emergency service operations.

At the moment, there is no need for Army personnel to be deployed in such a manner. Nevertheless, the teams remain ready and in position for a new, comparable mission. General Steve Thull noted in that regard that the next deployment may be related to the distribution of vaccines.

On Thursday morning, 17 soldiers were sent to a mission in Mali, which represents the biggest operation on foreign territory for the Army since the war in Kosovo. Fighters in Mali are currently being trained by European special forces, while the Grand Duchy is responsible for local security.
