The new petitions will be available for signatures until 18 March and must gather at least 5,500 signatures in order to pass the threshold for a public debate.

On Wednesday, RTL reported that 14 petition demands had been submitted against the introduction of unisex toilets in secondary schools – a record for any topic. However, the rules dictate that just one petition can be accepted on the same topic, and in this instance it is first come first served, so the first petition of the 14 has been published as a result.

Other subjects tackled by the latest petitions include the creation of a potential army reserve, which could take on foreigners from other NATO member states, and a call to abolish automatic inheritance rights. Another calls for a referendum for a national strategy plan for semi-conductors, a vital part of modern technology, while a further petition seeks to protect the title of psychologist. Another wants to improve annual leave for familial reasons. Further information can be found on petitiounen.lu.
