Ministry for Home Affairs146 unaccompanied minors sought international protection in 2023

Following a parliamentary enquiry in the Chamber of Deputies, Minister Gloden has unveiled that 146 unaccompanied minors sought international protection in Luxembourg in 2023.

According to figures provided by Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden in response to a parliamentary question by MPs Dan Biancalana and Claire Delcourt of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP), a total of 146 unaccompanied minors formally requested international protection in Luxembourg in 2023. In the first quarter of 2024, an additional seven made similar requests. During the same period, five unaccompanied minors sought temporary protection.

Initial reception facilities in the Grand Duchy have the capacity to accommodate 18 unaccompanied minors, with 14 places currently available. Additionally, 16 facilities throughout Luxembourg provide accommodation for minors who arrive without parents, offering support both before and after their application for international protection.
