Luxembourg recorded 139 applications for international protection in April, alongside 99 temporary protection requests, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Ministry of Home Affairs reported that 139 people applied for international protection in Luxembourg in April, bringing the total number of applications since the start of the year to 457.

Syrian nationals made up the largest group of applicants in April, with 15 requests. They were followed by applicants from Eritrea and Ukraine, with 12 each, Venezuela with 11, and Algeria with 10. Other applicants came from countries including Afghanistan, Sudan, Georgia, Guinea, and Turkey.

In April, 54 people were granted refugee status. Since the beginning of the year, 141 people have been recognised as refugees, while seven have received subsidiary protection. The authorities also recorded 146 decisions on international protection cases in April.

The same month, 11 returns of applicants for international protection were carried out, including four forced returns and seven voluntary returns. Since January, Luxembourg has recorded 47 returns in total, 10 of them forced and 37 voluntary.

Separately, 99 people applied for temporary protection in April, 92 of whom were Ukrainian nationals. Temporary protection was granted to 75 people during the month. Since the start of 2026, 317 people have applied for temporary protection in Luxembourg, including 300 Ukrainians.
