Police recently put two new Tesla Model S cars into service, a controversial decision that begged the question, "Are the cars worth it?"
Luxembourg police's purchase of two eye-catching Tesla Model S cars last August offered up conflicting opinions and prompted wild rumors. Most people, however, were impatient to see this investment in action.
The cars have made some impressive appearances since being put into on 26 April, even being part of the Wednesday procession that escorted the Dutch royal couple during their Luxembourg visit.
Expensive, Useless or both?
Our colleagues from RTL 5minutes launched a survey of the week and investigated what their readers thought of the new police cars.
52% of the respondents felt that that the brand-new Teslas were "expensive and useless."
What we know, however, is that the two Tesla cars are being actively used by the police's central traffic unit in their daily missions.
Evasive replies
RTL also contacted Luxembourg's police and asked whether or not they believed that the purchase was worth it. Are there any problems with the cars? Are they reliable?
"It has only been a month that the cars have been in service," the authorities replied evasively. "We don't want to give feedback this soon."
The question of their effectiveness will therefore have to wait "especially since it is a two-year pilot project", a Luxembourg police spokesman explained.
