In some cases, statues had been knocked down; in others, lettering had been damaged.

The City of Luxembourg reported the incident to police and filed a complaint on 29 June, and has since been in contact with the families whose graves were affected, according to Eich.

Forensic police attended the scene as part of the investigation. So far, however, police have no suspect in the case and were unable to comment on a possible motive, saying only that it appeared to be an act of vandalism.
