The sentence was handed out on Thursday at the Courts in Diekirch.
The 83 year old defendant received 10 years in prison for attempted manslaughter, six of them suspended. The prosecution had requested 20 years for attempted murder.
The perpetrator will have to indemnify the victim for five years as one of the conditions of his sentence.
