“Last year, I urged the world to boycott Auchan for failing to withdraw from Russia and stop funding war crimes. However, the reality seems to be far worse: Auchan has evolved into a full-fledged weapon of Russian aggression,” Dmytro Kuleba said on Twitter.

An investigative report by Bellingcat, The Insider, and Le Monde, published in the French daily on Friday, found evidence that in March 2022 managers of the supermarket’s Russian subsidiary were coordinating the provision of “donations” to the Russian army.

Items listed included cigarettes, socks, food items such as canned pork stew, and axes and nails. According to an anonymous whistleblower, these items were provided free of charge by the supermarket.

Auchan’s Ukraine branch said it was “shocked” by the reports.
