Pornhub is the subject of a public petition which has been signed by more than 400,000 internet users following numerous cases concerning videos published without consent, rape sequences, and pornographic videos involving missing persons.
The petition demands the closure of the pornographic platform which, according to its author, Laila Mickelwait, supports human trafficking. The text also calls for legal action to be taken against the leaders of Pornhub.
Mickelwait, a dedicated activist, has launched a website called Trafficking Hub with the link to the petition. The site also announces demonstrations and other events related to her fight. On her Twitter account, Mickelwait says that the petition was launched at the request of other internet users.
By Tuesday morning, the petition had already collected nearly 420,000 signatures after just over a month online. The text is addressed to the United States Department of Justice, which has no legal obligation to take action on the basis of the petition.
The Pornhub group is from Montreal but based in Luxembourg for tax purposes.
