Estimated at 2 million US dollarsA burnt-out Ferrari could be worth more than a house

It may look like a pile of junk, but the history and rarity of this Ferrari - or what is left of it - could allow it to be auctioned off in August for an exorbitant price.

This Ferrari 500 Mondial Spider from 1954, created by Pinin Farina, has only been produced 13 times. According to archival information, it was driven by ex-Ferrari pilot Franco Cortese, who had won the 1947 Grand Prix of Rome in a Ferrari 125 S, the brand’s very first victory.

This very car participated in the Mille Miglia in 1954, the Grand Prix of Imola in 1955 and the Targa Florio in 1956. It was also the second ever produced Ferrari 500 back in 1954. All of this could cause the car to sell at a very high price at Sotheby’s auction sale in California on 19 August.

The auction house estimates this model at between $1.2 and $1.6 million and has not set a reserve price. But according to the French website turbo.fr, experts from the Financial Review estimated the car to be worth $ 2 million.

The car was damaged in the 1960s, during a race in the United States, and has since then been kept in storage, in this condition.

The auctioneer humorously pointed out that it “will require a complete restoration to bring it back to its glory days”. Seems like a bit of an understatement.
