Welcome to the weekend! Celebrate global cultures in Differdange, attend a flamenco show, watch films at drive-in cinema, get together with neighbours, see an English play or support cyclists along the Moselle!

1. Turn up the heat at Flamenco festival

What: Folklore tradition
Where: Kulturfabrik, 116 Rue de Luxembourg, 4221 Esch-sur-Alzette
When: Friday, 24 May at 7pm – info & tickets

The Flamenco Festival is taking place the Esch Kulturfabrik over the next week, with fierce performances, musical workshops and concerts. This Friday is the first concert, “The Wild Dancer, by dancer Lucía Ruibal, with music by José Almarcha and Roberto Lorente. The start of a week celebrating this incredible folkloric art tradition. 2. Roll down to drive-in cinema

For the true American 1950s experience, Ciné Sura is organising Drive-In Cinema screenings at the Echternach Lake from Friday 24 May to Saturday 1 June. Entry is from 8pm, with the film starting around 9.454pm each evening. The programme includes children’s films as well as blockbusters like Oppenheimer, Barbie, Dune II and The Fall Guy. 3. Say hi to your neighbours

What: Neighbourhood festival

It’s Nopeschfest this Saturday, or the neighbour(hood) festival, where various communes (see the list of those participating here) are closing off streets or organising small events. Take a look at what your commune is organising, invite your neighbours over with some freshly baked goods, or meet out in the street for a cremant. It’s all about getting to know your street and that will be great fun.

4. See the English play Cock

What: Local theatre production
Where: Théâtre des Capucins, 9 Pl. du Théâtre, 2613 Ville-Haute Luxembourg
When: Thursday, 23 May and Friday, 24 May at 8pm – info & tickets

Luxembourg’s Anne Simon has taken Mike Bartlett’s play Cock and brought it to life at the Théâtre des Capucins. When John takes a break from his long-term boyfriend, he accidentally meets the girl of his dreams. As John tries to shed the labels he’s felt so comfortable with for a long time, the darkly comical forces of his indecision come to a head in a dramatic dinner party confrontation.

5. Watch Moonrise Kingdom

What: Adventure/Romance
Where: Cinémathèque, 17 Pl. du Théâtre, 2613 Luxembourg
When: Saturday, 25 May at 4pm – info & tickets

Two 12-year-olds, who live on an island, fall in love with each other and elope into the wilderness. While people set out on a search mission, a violent storm approaching them catches their attention.

6. Celebrate cultural differences in Differdange

What: Food, music, family events
Where: Place du Marché in Differdange
When: Saturday, 25 May and Sunday, 26 May – FREE – more info here

The City of Differdange marks different cultures and diversity this weekend with a cultural festival. The event takes places on the Place du Marché and in the city centre, combining live music, family activities and gastronomy. The goal is to not only learn about different places around the world, but especially to interact with those people.

7. See bikers pedal along the Moselle

What: Legendary cyclists lead the way
Where: Rue des Vignes 4, L-5657 Mondorf-les-Bains
When: Saturday, 25 May at 9am, running throughout the day – FREE – more info here

The Schleck Gran Fondo & Medio Fondo courses offer a unique ride through Luxembourg’s stunning landscapes, including a captivating journey along the Moselle River and its picturesque vineyards. Unfortunately participation is no longer possible if you haven’t signed up yet, but you can support from the sidelines or along the route. You can see the map of the courses on the website. Upon arrival in Mondorf-les-Bains, a village is open to the public with entertainment for all ages.
