What's On? 9–12 May7 things to do in and around Luxembourg this weekend

RTL Today
Welcome to the weekend! What a busy one it is: Support marathon runners, watch the Eurovision final, celebrate Europe Day, see incredible guitarists, attend the pilgrimage, take part in a charity walk and more.

1. Celebrate Europe Day

What: National holiday
Where: Especially around Kirchberg
When: Thursday, 9 May, see links below

On this day in 1950, the Schuman Declaration was signed, laying the foundations for the European Union. Various events are taking place around Luxembourg on this national holiday. The European Parliament is hosting talks and concerts between 12-6pm and you can visit the childhood home of Robert Schuman. There are plenty of other events taking place on this off day, too – more on that below and in this article.

2. Listen to six strings at Guitar Festival

The 3rd edition of the Luxembourg Guitar Festival at the conservatory brings together young students and guitar masters for top level concerts, masterclasses, lectures, and an instrument exhibition. There is a national youth competition as well as an international competition for young guitarists. The guitar is one of the most popular instruments taught and played in music schools and conservatories all over the world. However, despite its high popularity, concerts for this instrument remain quite rare in Luxembourg – that’s why we’re grateful to have this event!

3. See the Lady Fatima pilgrimage

What: Annual religious tradition
Where: Op Bässent, L-9520 Wiltz
When: Thursday, 9 May – all day, read more here

The annual pilgrimage to Our Lady of Fatima takes place in Wiltz this Ascension Thursday. Every year, some 20,000 pilgrims come to give thanks to “Nossa Senhora de Fatima”, at the “Op Bässent” site in Wiltz, which was erected in 1952. It is also a family celebration, combining cultural and religious traditions with community folklore.
