What's On? Easter Special7 things to do in and around Luxembourg this weekend 🐣

Josh Oudendijk
Welcome to the weekend! Celebrate Easter with an egg hunt or collect earthenware whistling birds, see E.T. with orchestra, participate in a collective masterpiece, see the circus come to town or go for cosy clubbing on Saturday night.

1. Get your ceramic whistling bird at the traditional Emaischen market

What: Traditional Easter Monday
Where: City centre and in village of Nospelt
When: Monday, 1 April, all day - FREE - more info here

Easter Monday is known to draw Luxembourg’s pottery enthusiasts to the traditional ‘Emaischen’ markets in Nospelt and the capital. Every year on Easter Monday, potters from all around the country come to these markets to sell their traditional ‘PĂ©ckvillecher’ for the Emaischen. The PĂ©ckvillercher are little earthenware whistles shaped like birds, traditionally exchanged between lovers and now shared more generally.

Insider note: While the birds come in all colours, shapes and sizes, some of the birds that are sold are unique to that year’s edition. Collectors show up early in the morning to grab the very special ones!

2. See E.T. with live orchestra at the Philharmonie

The Philharmonie is finishing off the pre-Easter season with a bang: A special screening of Steven Spielberg’s E.T. with live music provided by the Luxembourg Philharmonic. Childhood favourite for some, timeless tale to (re)discover for others with John Williams’ iconic soundtrack played live. E.T. is more than just a family-friendly sci-fi blockbuster, it is also a tale about the essential topics like empathy, friendship and belonging.
