On Sunday, the first European suspended barbecue championships took place in Berus, Germany. Luxembourg won the first place in the "suspended barbecue" category.

The competition was organised by the “Side by Side BBQ” barbecue team and formed part of the Überherrn adventure days. The team “BBQ Team Frozen Fire Lëtzebuerg” represented the Grand Duchy at the competition and did not fail to please. The team won the first place in the “suspended barbecue” category.

Steve Melsen and Luc Hoffmann went to have a closer look at the barbecue bonanza.

The challenge

The candidates had to prepare and serve a 3-course meal.

The first course had to be boneless meat such as pork chop. The second course was “free style,” which means that the candidates could throw on the grill whatever they wanted. The third course rounded the meal off with a dessert.

Luxembourg’s team won the first prize in the first category.

The master piece

The meat that won the Luxembourgish team the competition had been marinated for 24 hours in beer by the Kirsch butcher shop. They decided to serve it with a smoked cherry sauce.

Overall, Frozen Fire finished 10th. 20 teams had participated in total. The Luxembourgers finished 17th in “Free Style” and 8th in the dessert category.
