
According to Ökötest, the “Beyond Meat” burgers displayed a “greatly increased content of mineral oil constituents.” These constituents, the reviewers explained, accumulate in the human liver and adipose tissue.
The magazine also lamented the use of taste-enhancing yeast extract and argued that there was room for improvement in terms of sustainability because the product is currently still shipped from the US to Europe. However, the startup plans on opening a factory in the Netherlands next year.
Ökötest concluded that they “cannot recommend” the Beyond Meat burgers and only gave it a rating of “satisfactory.”
