Do you know who was the first woman ever to be elected in Luxembourg's Parliament, and in which year?

The first female in Luxembourg's parliament was Marguerite Thomas-Clement (1886-1979). Teacher by training Thomas-Clément was a women's rights activist and a member of the socialist party.

Thomas-Clément was elected in 1919, during the first universal suffrage elections, and served until 1931. She remained the only female member of parliament until 1965.

The Luxembourg parliament became an exclusively male-dominated playground from 1931 until 1965, when Astrid Lulling (who later served as member of the European parliament until 2014).

During her tenure, Thomas-Clément tried to defend the rights of female workers and prostitutes.
