There's too much to say about this choreographer and her work,  I will just point out one quote she once said : “the most beautiful things are always hidden, there's very often a feeling of shame on top of them...”  It is this human way of seeings things that I feel close to when I am creating clothes in a way.

  • 'Gloria' by John Cassavetes

I usually remember the soundtrack of every movie I watch. Sometimes more strongly than the plot itself. It creates a certain atmosphere for me. The movie 'Gloria' by John Cassavetes, starts with wonderful music by Bill Conti.

Gena Rowlands , with her melancholic beauty, her strength and her extreme way of playing roles, became a huge inspiration to me. In “Gloria”, she's funny, tough but human, sensitive and independent. She doesn't need to prove any femininity, she simply is the way she is. And because of this charisma  she has so much style in her Emanuel Ungaro designed outfits when she runs with a gun through New York - in high heels.

  • Harold Budd, Ruben Garcia & Daniel Lentz 'Music for 3 pianos'

I always liked Brian Eno's music, and through him I stumbled upon the music of Harold Budd. Listening to a few albums, it does sometimes feel as if you are relaxing in a wellness centre! Nevertheless there are a few very nice pieces, very dreamy, very atmospheric and above all, timeless. The music can transport me to a garden full of flowers in the 19th century: slightly mysterious and romantic, like a Fantin-Latour painting. His music makes me forget the speed of our world.

  • William Turner 'Dutch Boats in a Gale'

Listening to the ambient music of Harold Budd, especially the song 'Pulse-Pause-Repeat', I can see paintings of William Turner in front of my eyes.

Even though the music is quiet and the paintings are rather dramatic, I do see a connection. The vertigo-like scene on the sea drags me into the painting, like a spiral. It's confusing. A longing for the coast after a long winter. I can already hear the seagulls...

  • A bird: Green Woodpecker

We don't have seagulls here in Luxembourg, but we do have green woodpeckers. I have been observing them over the winter. They have such wonderfully aesthetic feathers.

When I look at them I always think to myself how nicely they're dressed so to speak. Their long green elegant 'coat' on top of a black and white patterned underlayer, with a touch of red or yellow that pops out here and there. They have a fashionable elegance, revealed most especially when they open their wings and fly. Very poetic.
