Carmen Baustert offers an insider's guide to Luxembourg's unique celebrations and shares tips for parents looking to feel at home.

Mom Life in Luxembourg is a new parenting podcast made for all English speaking parents here in Luxembourg. From crèches to crémant, we'll cover everything you need to know about raising kids and living your best life in the Grand Duchy.

Please note that even though the podcast is called Mom Life, dad's are absolutely welcome!

In this festive episode of Mom Life in Luxembourg, I sit down with Carmen Baustert, aka the content creator @lazyperfectionistmom on Instagram, to delve into the unique cultural tapestry that is Luxembourg's holiday season.

Carmen, who is actually Luxembourgish and mom of two, shares her journey of growing up in Luxembourg and why she returned to her home country to raise her children.

Carmen reflects on her experience of Luxembourg's tight-knit communities, where she felt safe enough to go into the forest or take the public buses with her friends, making it an ideal place for families.

We talk about the quality educational resources and ample support for working parents, and how Luxembourg offers more than most expect, and definitely more than you can find in other countries around the world!

Next, Carmen educates me on how to celebrate the holiday season like a local. She tells me who the key players are, the history behind the events and traditions, what the kids do to celebrate, and most importantly what parents are supposed to do for each of these holidays.

If you only have a vague idea of who or what is Kleeschen, pronounced 'Cleeshen'. or Houseker, pronounced 'Hosey-ka', and have no idea what Liichtmessdag is, and you are raising kids in the Grand Duchy, then this is the episode for you!

Carmen also speaks briefly on her social media community mom_luxembourg, which is a collective of local mom content creators on Instagram. She shares her advice for new parents based on her learnings from this community and her personal experiences, and offers advice to families new to Luxembourg as well.

I'd love to hear what you think about this episode and how you’re planning to celebrate the holidays. Please drop me a note at momlife@rtltoday.lu. And if you want more information about Carmen, or the group @mom_luxembourg, please contact her @lazyperfectionistmom on Instagram.
