Lycée Edward Steichen International School is Luxembourg's northernmost international school, nestled in the rolling hills around Clervaux - right beside the train station.

The school offers classes from Kindergarten through Secondary. While the school has been teaching the European Baccalaureate alongside the Luxembourgish curriculum, it was recently officially approved to award the European Baccalaureate to the final year, with the first graduates pocketing their diplomas in 2024.

"What I enjoy about teaching here is the rich culturally diverse school community," says primary teacher Sarah Griffin, who is also part of the European Dimension Team. Edward Steichen has partnered with other schools around the European continent, giving children the opportunity to meet other students through joint interactive projects.

The location of the school gives pupils the opportunity to do quite a lot of learning outdoors: "We are surrounded by space and woodland, and we take full advantage of that. We have a designated area of forest which we use for all of our children. It's complete with viewing platforms, campfires, wooden huts so the children can take their sense of wonder outside into the environment."

Her students Lily Commodore and Isaac Costa Laci say they really enjoy learning other languages at the school, and share that the teachers are really nice and create fun lessons.

There are about 500 students in secondary and 250 in primary at the campus in Reuler. Classes are small and teachers can attend to the needs of pupils.

Secondary students Paul-Rubens Volk, Isabelle Abella and Shania Amouzou (all in S3 English section) share insights into the 3D printers available on campus, the inter-nationality of the community and workshops, as well as the presentations and projects that are ongoing at the school. There's even a funky arcade in the hallway.

Giles Kerridge, Attaché à la direction and Coordinator for secondary European Classes, concludes: "I think one of our best resources is the diversity of our school community. As a teacher, as well as a school manager, this really creates fantastic learning opportunities. That allows our students in the anglophone class to really continue their anglophone education while having exposure to the rest of the world whilst in our local community here in the north of Luxembourg."
