Everyone’s got their own favorite emoji, the one you generally use no matter the context. After consulting with an amateur psychologist who dabbles in misanthropy and cynicism, we found out what the most common emojis say about those who use them.
🙏 Prayer hands, also known as folded hands
You’re grateful and kind, a cross between a monk and a social worker, the sort of person who rescues flies trapped in cars, never forgets a birthday, and sends thank-you notes to drivers who let you merge – at least you think you are. In reality, you’re sanctimonious and unbearable. Friends and family avoid sending you messages out of fear you’ll respond with the dreaded prayer hands.
❤️Heart
You know that the world would be a better place if only people had more love in their hearts, and that’s why you are so fond of the heart emoji. Your own love knows no bounds, but not in the way you think. You give it out – and up – for free, to anyone or anything, really. If someone googles “promiscuous,” your face pops up in over half of the 54 million search results.
👍Thumbs-up
You have impeccable taste and judgement in all matters ranging from culture and food to morality and politics. In both social and professional life, you are an arbitrator, one whose approval and thumb-up others seek because they want to please you and know they have chosen well. At least that’s what you think. In fact, everyone is putting you on. When they send you an update or a request, they only do so to see if you, Mr. (or Ms.) Pompous respond with that thumbs-up, which of course you will.
☺️Smiley
Everything is a source of happiness for you, from your aunt’s message telling you that your uncle’s hair transplant was only a partial success, to your boss informing you that the weekly meeting will start 15 minutes late. At first glance, it would appear enviable that you find joy in simple or uninteresting things in life, but so do dogs and certain types of irksome tropical birds that never stop squawking. Moreover, you so reflexively use the smiley emoji, even carelessly at times when people send you unpleasant news, that everyone is beginning to think that you are deranged.
😂Laugh-crying emoji
Everything is funny to you because you are a funny person – funny-looking that is.
🤣Tilted laugh-crying emoji
Everything is funny to you because you are funny person – funny-looking and constantly drunk, that is, and about to fall out of your chair.
😢Single-tear emoji
You may believe that this emoji shows slight disappointment or sadness, but it doesn’t. Not at all. What this emoji says, and what everyone believes, is that there is something slightly off about your physiology. Only one tear duct works. You might want to get that checked out by a doctor. Really.
