That’s right folks, your usual programming is set to be a bit unusual – but it’s temporary!
As breakfast show host Sam Steen embarks on parental leave, Today Radio has taken the opportunity to shake things up a bit.
“It’s the right time for me to take leave,” explains Sam. “The team are set up to bring our audience a brilliant mix of music, interviews and community led features and I know people are going to love the new shows we’ve got coming. The early mornings have been tough, but now I can look forward to some time off, maybe recharge the batteries with just taking care of my six-month-old daughter and doing the school run with my five-year ohgodwhathaveIdoneisittoolatetochangemymind....”
What does this mean for your fave radio station? Well, from Monday 4 March, listeners can expect five new shows to entertain you throughout the day.
For all you early birds, Stephen ‘Steps’ Lowe will be taking over the morning shift with his new show, Sunny Side Up, starting at 6.30am.
“Stepping in – no pun intended – for Sam over the next six months is a brilliant opportunity,” says Stephen. “Sam and Mer have done a terrific job in setting the whole station up for the day and, aside from worrying that we will break the desk and screens, I’m also wary of the ALL CAPS texts that we may receive en masse. I hope that we can continue the energy and spirit that we are incredibly proud of here at Today Radio. Expect some new features and a few surprises along the way.”
Manic and maverick Today Radio producer Meredith Moss remains a vital part of the show, bringing madcap quizzes, a terrible grasp of mathematics and a tendency to claim to hate a song one week, only to claim to love it a little later, and ensures our guests our booked, fed and watered.
Sasha Kehoe’s informative and reliable research of the news will continue to voice our bulletins, even if she is shockingly bad at the quizzes.
Jumping into the lunchtime slot is Melissa Dalton, bringing all her hallmark guests, games and fun tunes from The Home Stretch to daytime listeners. Tune in from 12-2pm for The Melissa Dalton Show!
From 4pm, there will be a new feature known as The Artist Hour, where the team will curate a whole hour of music dedicated to a single artist, showcasing classic bands, highlighting upcoming concerts, giving artists some much deserved love. What better way to really get to know some of the biggest and best bands in the world?
Vanessa Phelan remains our afternoon news anchor and her taciturn world views will pop up on both the lunchtime shows and evening coverage - if only we can stop her fawning over Florence and The Machine.
The new evening drivetime show is The Mixtape featuring Alice Monnat. Alice has stepped in to cover shows for Today Radio in the past and her new show promises to be jam-packed with great music to get listeners home happy.
“I’m really excited to launch ‘The Mixtape’ on Today Radio,” Alice says. “I’ll be bringing you lots of fresh new tunes as well as some of your favourite classics. I’ve loved covering shows in the past and can’t wait to get stuck in with a new one!”
But the fun doesn’t stop there – Saturday listeners can look forward to a brand new show as well! From 1–3 pm, Steve Miller presents Pumping On Your Stereo, two hours of fun upbeat music with some of the stories behind the music and a spotlight on upcoming live music in Luxembourg.
Rest assured, radio fans, you’ll be in excellent hands for the months ahead!
