Usually on Fridays the RTL Today team likes to present its "What's On" recommendation list for events in and around Luxembourg on the weekend. Today will be somewhat different, unfortunately, having to present to you the events that will not be taking place. Here's an overview:

In the category of music events and concerts, close to all venues in Luxembourg have postponed or cancelled this weekend’s bookings.

The Philharmonie announced the cancellation of all its scheduled concerts this weekend up until 15 March, including the Scharoun Ensemble on 12 March, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and “Viva España!” on 13 March, Chick Corea Trilogy on 14 March, Loopino on 14 and 15 March, and The Gurdjieff Esemble on 15 March. Ticket holders will be contacted by email.

Trifolion Echternach cancelled the joint University of Northern Iowa Wind Ensemble and Echternach Music School performance. The concert of Hidden Orchestra on Friday will not take place at Neimenster. Den Atelier have cancelled De Gregori & Band scheduled for Sunday, and the venue’s Michel Welter explained the situation to RTL Today:

“We try to cope with the situation, roughly 90% of concerts are postponed and 10% cancelled. The world comes to a standstill. There are artists cancelling whole tours, even shows beyond 31 March.” He advises ticket holders to visit the website as updates are giving for each show accordingly.

In Esch-sur-Alzette, two concerts meant to take place on Friday and Saturday at Kulturfabrik are cancelled. This includes the Parity EP Release Show on 13 March and CHAiLD x Maz on 14 March. Tickets will be reimbursed. Rockhal have postponed several events as well, including Kid Francescoli taking place at Rotondes on Friday and the 20th International Record Fair in the Rockhal Lobby on Sunday.

Conservatoire de Luxembourg have announced that their “Märeler BigBand” and the BigBand “Spuerkeess Bankers in Concert” scheduled for Saturday 14 March has been cancelled.

All events hosted by the city’s theatres are cancelled.

With regards to fairs, Springbreak Luxembourg will not be taking place this weekend, but is postponed to early July. Furthermore, the Luxembourg Film Fest was cancelled prematurely. There will not be a local market in Echternach this weekend.

Numerous sports events have been cancelled. This includes the POSTLAF scheduled for Sunday and the Lalux Ladies Cup (Basketball) on Saturday. Luxembourg’s football federation announced this Thursday that all football matches will be cancelled with immediate effect.
